THERAPY FOR ADULT SURVIVORS OF CHILD ABUSE IN OAKLAND
Matthew Matt Lindgren is an Oakland therapist counselor coach who helps adults who suffered child sexual, emotional and physical abuse with therapy, counseling, and coaching.
OLD STUFF TENDS TO STICK AROUND
The wounds and behavior one learns from child abuse often continues into our adult lives, affecting our relationships with partners, family, children, friends, and coworkers.
In order to survive, abused children may learn a variety of skills that don't work so well in the adult world, including:
- A chronic mistrust of others and a compulsion to form relationships with people who harm you and do not deserve trust
- A need to act out sexually or an inability to experience sexual pleasure without terror
- Anxiety or depression around the idea of feeling you deserve love and are a good person
YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING
Maybe you tried therapy in the past and made little or no progress over a long period of time. Perhaps you've known you need to do something, but have been putting it off, hoping things will improve.
Perhaps you're about to become a parent yourself, or your child is approaching the age when you were abused, and you find that you're focused on old stuff.
