Oakland CEUs for MFTs and LCSWs on Vicarious Trauma and Compassion Fatigue

Somatic Play Therapy with Traumatized Children

Sometimes it's important to know when and how to break the rules. Mirroring is a basic tenet of play therapy and yet there are times when working with children who may not have the developmental skills or resources to pull through that it is okay to break this rule. Somatic interventions can teach traumatized children that they can handle strong affect by learning from your actions or those of a caregiver.

This one hour class shows you how to recognize the physiological cues both in yourself and in your young clients that may necessitate somatic interventions in play therapy. It presents an overview and examples of basic interventions that draw from techniques in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing that you may use with children and teach to caregivers.
